Festivals and other cultural events increasing contribute to the culture and economy of towns and cities around the world. In Hobart, our vibrant art and cultural calendar includes MOFO and Dark MOFO, Ten Days on the Island, and the Falls Festival. In this unit, students will learn about how the history of cultural events and their current roles in contemporary civic life to build a detailed understanding of the professional activities of arts and cultural events, including planning and budgeting, programming, promotion, and operations.

- Critically analyse and evaluate the social, economic, cultural and political implications of media and communication in the cultural and creative industries at a local and global level;
- Integrate and apply these concepts to design and produce a fully-costed a cultural or creative project, such as an event;
- Communicate the implications – such as the social, economic, cultural and/or political impacts of a cultural and creative event – effectively and ethically;
- Reflect critically on one’s own professional and research development in cultural and creative events
