Introduction

This unit is designed to provide an opportunity for you to participate in engaging topics in Criminology. The topic offered will vary each year to reflect the expertise of staff. The topic offered will vary each year to reflect the expertise of staff. It will showcase emerging research and practice of an area within Criminology. Whichever topic is offered, the unit will explore relevant theory, methods, practical applications and analysis of particular crime and criminal justice topics. Previous offerings in the unit have included 'Historical Criminology' and 'Crime Prevention and Counter-Terrorism'.

Block Teaching (2.5 hours weekly)

Assessment

Task 1: Ongoing Tutorial Participation/Other Participation (10%)

Task 2: Students will undertake a preliminary assignment and receive feedback that feeds into their major assignment, 1000 words (25%)

Task 3: Students will  use feedback from Task 2 to inform their more detailed task, 2000 words (40%)

Task 4: Students will prepare communicate the main findings from their analysis in Task 3 that would be suitable to share with a public (e.g. industry, fellow students, media, policymakers), 500 words (25%)
