The research project will consist of research conducted in a selected area of Tourism or Cultural Heritage. To develop your Research Project, you will work with your lecturer to formulate a consultancy style report that will be based upon a selected research question and a real-life industry issue. You will learn how to assess available secondary data sources critically and review methodological options for assessing this style of data. You will also learn options for knowledge transfer, pitching research proposals and appropriate communications techniques.
You will collect secondary data and assess the contributions of the thesis research in light of current tourism or cultural heritage literature. The project will be a written consulting style document of 4,500 words in length and will include:
• an introduction with clearly defined research questions
• a critical review of academic and industry ‘grey’ literature relevant to the research question
• a section that critically reviews options for use of secondary data
• a detailed methods section that critically reviews options for assessing data sources
• detailed analysis of results
• a discussion that assesses the theoretical and practical implications of the findings.
You will also present your research question at a research seminar that will be conducted during your project.
This unit is taught in Hobart using blended delivery. There are four compulsory workshops that will delivered on the Hobart campus throughout the semester. The remainder of the unit is delivered online.
