The research thesis will consist of research conducted in a selected area of Tourism or Cultural Heritage. In this unit you will learn how to formulate a literature review, select a research question and critically assess a range of different methodological options and analyse data sources. You will also learn about options for knowledge transfer, pitching research proposals, applying for research and appropriate communications techniques. You will conduct collect data (either primary of secondary), analyse your data and assess the contributions of the thesis research in light of current tourism or cultural heritage literature. The thesis will be a written document of 7,000 words in length and will include:

• an introduction with clearly defined research questions * a critical review of literature relevant to the research question
• a detailed methods section that critically reviews options for methods and justifies your choice of methods
• detailed analysis of results
• a discussion that assess the theoretical contribution of the thesis and the practical implications of the findings.

You will also be required to present your research question at a research seminar that will be conducted prior to the completion of your thesis. The thesis is expected to make an original contribution to the relevant discipline. It may not contain any material that has been accepted for a degree or diploma by the University of Tasmania or any other tertiary institution, except by way of background information and duly acknowledged in the dissertation. This unit is taught in Hobart using blended delivery. There are four compulsory workshops that will delivered on the Hobart campus. The remainder of the unit is delivered online.
