Placement commences on the 24th May 2021 and concludes on the 27th August 2021 (14 weeks).
To be eligible to undertake this professional experience placement (PEP) students are required to:
- attend compulsory Preparation for Placement seminars;
- meet the academic pre-requisites for this unit;
- meet the Functional Requirements for students enrolled in Social Work; and,
- undertake a National Police Record Check and Working with Children/Vulnerable People Check (Volunteer).
You will be advised of how to meet these requirements at the Fieldwork Orientation Session within the first weeks of Semester 1.

Introduction
The final year Social Work Practicum is one of the capstone units in the Bachelor of Social Work with Honours. Students undertake 500 hours (minimum) of placement in a setting that is relevant to social work practice. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis. In some circumstances part time placements may be negotiated, subject to availability.
A focus of placement will be the implementation of a research project that they designed in Semester 1. Students will maintain a meticulous record of the ongoing development, implementation and results of their study, as well as other practice experiences while on placement. Students will also be required to attend preparation seminars and a field education placement interview in Semester 1.
Full-time placements are undertaken over a period of 14 weeks.

| Assessment | Continuous evaluation of student performance by the Field Educator. At mid-placement and at the end of placement, student, field educator and liaison staff (from Social Work, UTAS) formally evaluate student performance based on the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Practice Standards (2013) and the AASW Code of Ethics (2010). Students will be required to present documented evidence of the progress of their research and other practice interventions. |
