Research Pathway Social Work Practicum HGW606
Introduction
The final year Social Work Practicum is one of the capstone units in the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) degree. Students are required to undertake at least 14 weeks full-time equivalent (FTE) of placement in a setting that provides the opportunity to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit. You will design and implement interventions and strategies and you will implement your research project.
A Field Educator is allocated to each student and through supervision (provided by a social worker with a minimum of 2 years full time equivalent post graduation experience in the field) the theory of social work is translated into practice. Students will be required to attend preparation seminars prior to commencing placement.

Teaching Pattern | Placement (full-time) commences in late May and concludes in late August. Students undertake at least 14 weeks FTE of placement. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis. In some circumstances part-time placements may be negotiated, subject to availability. Full-time placements are undertaken over a period of 14 weeks. Students will also be required to attend preparation seminars prior to placement, some of these may occur in Semester 1. |
