Introduction

HMC320 is the continuation of HMC319. This is a workshop style, participatory language unit. The unit includes 1) discussions regarding grammar and 2) student and teacher-led exercises in speaking and listening, reading and writing. This unit builds on your previous study of Chinese in HMC101, 102, 219, 220 and 319 to advance your competency in reading, writing and speaking Mandarin Chinese.

  1. Understand conversations in Mandarin Chinese related to practical and social topics.
  2. Communicate in written Chinese using basic vocabulary, frequently used grammar structures and sentence patterns.
  3. Critically examine language norms in Chinese in order to approach “natural-sounding” Chinese.
  4. Consolidate strategies and resources for independent learning of Chinese language in order to progress towards fluency.
