Prospective students based in Launceston, Burnie or other parts of Tasmania and Australia, will need to enrol as Hobart off-campus.
The prerequisite is not applicable to background speakers of Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Indonesia. These background speakers (such as students from Malaysia, Malay students from Singapore, students from East Timor with good Indonesian skills) should enrol in Advanced Indonesian (HMN313 or HMN314). In some cases, unit coordinator may approve these background speakers to enrol in Intermediate Indonesian (HMN207 or HMN208).
Introduction
This is an advanced Indonesian unit. It is suitable for students who have significant prior Indonesian language learning and/or background speakers. This unit enables students to read, understand, and produce more technical and formal Indonesian. The unit covers content such as articles from newspapers, excerpts from novels, short stories, popular and academic journals, and videos that have been adapted to suit the skills of the students in this unit. You will be involved in discussing and providing opinions on complex and original issues that you learn each week. Independent study skills are essential to complete this unit successfully.
