Indonesian 3A HMN313

Introduction

This is an advanced Indonesian unit. It is suitable for students who have significant prior Indonesian language learning and/or background speakers. This unit enables students to read, understand, and produce more technical and formal Indonesian. The unit covers content such as articles from newspapers, excerpts from novels, short stories, popular and academic journals, and videos that have been adapted to suit the skills of the students in this unit. You will be involved in discussing and providing opinions on complex and original issues that you learn each week. Independent study skills are essential to complete this unit successfully.

  • Discuss complex topics (young people, environmental, social and political issues, as well as Australia-Indonesia relations) using the Indonesian language
  • Respond to spoken and written Indonesian, using an active vocabulary of 2000, including extended passages on a wide range of topics in Indonesia and edited authentic materials with use of a dictionary
  • Apply cross-cultural awareness to written and verbal communication when responding to assigned complex topics.
