Introduction
Sometimes philosophy can seem overly theoretical, and irrelevant to the concerns of non-philosophers. In recent decades, however, philosophy has undergone an "applied turn". Applied philosophers address the practical questions about individual conduct and public policy raised by contemporary social and technological developments. Not only can philosophical theory change the way we think about these issues, these issues can change the way we think about philosophical theory. This unit will explore some of the ways in which philosophy should matter to everyone at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
The exact content of this unit will rotate from year to year. For more specific information about the content of this unit in any given year, see the Teaching Plan available at the Philosophy homepage.
