Introduction
This unit provides an introduction to the field of forensic practice including crime scene investigation, forensic
science, e-
forensics, forensic interventions in social work; the sociology of forensic science and related ethical
considerations.
The unit provides an overview of the history and development of forensic investigation techniques,
as well as specific approaches and methods within the field, including the application of forensic science techniques
in practice and participation in the forensic science process from beginning-
to-end. Particular attention is given to
the impact of forensic science in crime investigation, illicit substance policing and the investigation of injuries, death
and fire.

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of crime scene examination policies , protocols and practices.
- Identify and assess the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse types of forensic evidence employed in criminal investigations, illicit substance policing and the investigation of injuries, death and fire.
- Critically analyse the factors that contribute to good practice in the collection, analysis and use of forensic evidence from crime scenes to courts (i.e. the forensic process).
