Learning Outcomes

  1. The skills, judgement and resolve to effectively and safely respond manage and resolve violent or potentially violent incidents with a minimum amount of force.
  2. You will understand the concepts of de-escalation and the force continuum and be able to identify and interpret the legislation, policy and procedures that provide the relevant guidance and apply this to your practice.
  3. You will be proficient at using a range of skills to avoid confrontation and conflict.
  4. You will be able to recognise risk to yourself and others and apply appropriate strategies to reduce that risk.
  5. You will understand the link between theory and practice, and draw on a range of theories and knowledge to reflect on and refine their practice.
  6. You will demonstrate a growing understanding of how the values of integrity, accountability and equity are, and can be, embedded in practice.
  7. You will be able to identify the relevant accountability measures, e.g.: reporting, locate the sources of guidance for these measures and apply this guidance to the required procedures and the production of accurate and reliable records.
  8. Communicate knowledge and research/investigation related to the subject matter in an ePortfolio (eWorkbook).

Assessment

1500 word written assignment (20%);  2 one hour tests (15% each = 30%);   2 hour end of semester exam (50%)

Students must achieve 60% or more in all assessment components in order to gain an Ungraded Pass in this unit.
