Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). Learning Outcomes

  1. Be able to recall English meanings for an introductory body of Latin vocabulary.
  2. Understand and be able to apply the basic elements of Latin grammar, in particular the use of inflection (changes in the form of words) to establish grammatical functions and so create meaning.
  3. Be able to read passages of Latin (adapted and original) and to translate these into clear English.
  4. Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the Roman cultural systems embedded in Latin, and of the influence these have had on the development of modern languages and cultures.

On Campus:
Video grammar module (20 mins/1 time)
Weekly seminars (2 times = 3 hours per week)
Weekly tutorial (1 hour/1 time)

Off Campus:
Video grammar module (20 mins/1 time)
Seminar video recordings (3 hours/4 times)
Web conferences (4 x semester)

Assessment

Task 1: Vocabulary and paradigm quizzes (15%)

Task 2: Reflective questions (10%)

Task 3: Grammar and translation exercises (35%)

Task 4: Exam, 2 hours (40%)
