Introduction

This unit is designed to consolidate learning undertaken in earlier units in this course, and prepare students for work in one of the district police prosecution offices. It will provide students with supervised exposure to the different work areas in which that they will be expected to undertake duties, and requires them to participate in such work practices under the supervision of a qualified prosecutor.

Assessment in this unit is primarily competency based. Students will be required to demonstrate competence in a range of duties, including office and court based work practices. Examples of office based practices include preparing cases for court, reviewing files for evidence, providing written advice, communicating with stakeholders and complying with internal office procedures. Examples of court based practice areas include appearing in first appearance and general plea lists, applications for bail, other contested applications and at least one summary hearing. Students will complete several reflective online postings during their placement detailing their experiences as well as compile a portfolio evidencing their competence in key areas.
