sector who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the management of patient safety and service quality within health care organsiations. It is appropriate for hospital administrators, risk and quality assurance managers, and senior medical, nursing and allied health administrators.
Course objectives
The School of Health Sciences, aims to create an educational environment which values critical, reflective thinking, life-long learning, acquisition of generic attributes and professional development. This course contextualises the advanced knowledge and skills for students to understand the importance of and participate in quality and safety in Healthcare delivery. In the Graduate Diploma of Quality Services research units are introduced which extend abilities to generate and transmit solutions to complex quality and safety in healthcare problems. Course objectives are intended to:
- advance theoretical and practical appreciation of various health care systems;
- allow students to gain an in-depth knowledge of strategic management of health care organisations;
- enable students to understand epidemiological issues of health care organisations;
- generate strategies to identify and implement best practice models for quality service design;
- demonstrate problem solving and critical analysis skills for quality evaluation;
- enable students to critique workplace culture and its impact on quality service delivery and;
- develop solutions to address barriers to the development of a quality culture in the workplace.
Career outcomes
Graduates may find employment in hospital administration, health administration or risk and quality assurance management.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements
Domestic applicants must have an Australian bachelor degree in a relevant health discipline with at least two years work experience in the healthcare sector or be selected and sponsored through another agency, with evidence of equivalent qualifications and/or experience.
English Language
A minimum standard of English language proficiency must be met for entry into postgraduate programs at the University of Tasmania and can be demonstrated in any one of a variety of ways. Applicants for Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, and Masters by coursework degrees have the following English language requirements.
1. IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0)
2. TOEFL (PBT) 575 TWE 4.5; TOEFL (iBT) 88 (no score below 20)
3. PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 50
4. UTAS DEAP Overall 60% (Writing 60%)
5. Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade
6. Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade
7. Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade
Student Support
Domestic student support including email availability of staff, online IT and student services and the Flexible Library Service available to students outside Tasmania is available through the usual systems. Some of this, such as discussion forums, will be built into MyLO.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
Domestic students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place will be charged a fee based on the number of units a student enrols in. In 2018, this fee is $44.70 per unit. In 2018, the maximum charge for full time students is $298.
International students
International students should refer to the International Students course fees page to get an indicative course cost.
<default>International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
