The Master of Clinical Nursing articulates directly from the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours or Graduate Diploma courses and consists of 2 x 25 credit point units. Students must have completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent for entry into the course.

The School of Health Sciences aims to create an educational environment which values critical reflective thinking, life-long learning and professional development. The course focuses on a high level of conceptualisation within the discipline of nursing, preparing graduates who can contribute to knowledge and practice development within their own chosen clinical specialty.
Candidates will have the opportunity to:

  • develop leadership skills in Nursing;
  • develop advanced skills in clinical supervision, teaching and mentorship;
  • increase their understanding of the complex issues in nursing practice, and* enhance specialist nursing knowledge and skills.

The course aims to prepare students with the knowledge, career skills and personal attributes for employment in specialty areas of nursing at an advanced level.

Career outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Clinical Nursing will be equipped with knowledge and skills to enable them to function at an advanced level within practice. The course recognises the ability of expert practitioners and provides them with an appropriate professional qualification.

Course structure

The Master of Clinical Nursing comprises six 25% units or equivalent. The first two years of the course are studied under the Graduate Diploma of Nursing or the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours courses.

Schedule

The Master of Clinical Nursing program consists of Level 1 Graduate Certificate in Nursing (H5F), Level 2 Graduate Diploma of Nursing (H6F)/Bachelor of Nursing Professional Honours (H4F) and Level 3 the Master of Clinical Nursing units.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for an offer, an applicant must have:

  • Registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Evidence of AHPRA registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no endorsement notations or conditions.
  • Completed Graduate Diploma or equivalent in the same specialisation as the Master option they are applying for.
  • A credit average grade in the Graduate Diploma or equivalent

Midwives who do not have a nursing qualification identified in their Curriculum Vitae, are not eligible to apply.

International Applicants

This course is not available to international students. Please enquire online for advice on alternative course options.

The Master of Clinical Nursing articulates from the Graduate Diploma of Nursing, and the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours (Specialty).

If articulating from H4F Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours (Speciality), you must have completed CNA672, CNA613, CNA688 and CNA109 and have approval from the Director of Postgraduate Nursing to undertake CXA703.

Note that the research pathway in the Master of Clinical Nursing has limited places.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Domestic students enrolled in certain postgraduate coursework programs may not be eligible for student payments through Youth Allowance and Austudy. Visit the Department of Social Services website to find out more about eligibility for Centrelink support and the list of eligible courses
