Underpinned by the scientist-practitioner model, this course aims to equip you with advanced skills in assessing, diagnosing, and treating complex clinical psychologist presentations.

Graduate as a highly skilled clinical psychologist, providing support to the mental health needs of the Tasmanian community, and beyond.

  • 1 Apply the methods, principles and ethics of clinical psychology to enhance professional practice at an individual, discipline and interdisciplinary level.
  • 2 Formulate culturally sensitive psychological assessment, diagnoses and evidence-based treatment for common and complex psychological presentations across the life span.
  • 3 Appraise the scientific foundations of psychology through evaluating the research and clinical practice of oneself and others and use this to inform practice and policy.
  • Students will undertake two placement units under the supervision of Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisors during the course of their degree.

These placements will be organised by the University on the student’s behalf and provide scaffolded learning experiences to support students in achieving Stage 4 competencies as measured by the Clinical Psychology Placement Rating Scale (CYPRS). The CYPRS has an inherent, inbuilt scaffolding of achievement from Stage 1 (skills commensurate with an entry level, provisionally registered psychologist working under high levels of supervision) through to Stage 4 (skills commensurate with an entry level, fully registered psychologist), with each level of achievement required at various stages of the placement experience.
