Professional Honours in Clinical Pharmacy is designed with the professional pharmacist in mind to provide a flexible way to develop your clinical knowledge and better prepare yourself for the challenging roles of the future. Fully online, this course is flexible so that you can balance your work and personal commitments.
Start with this Professional Honours course then take advantage of our pathway options to complete the Masters of Clinical Pharmacy (M7F).
Course objectives
As a registered pharmacist, this course will build on your Bachelor degree, providing you with the clinical knowledge and skills to further your career in hospital or community pharmacy.
You will develop critical analysis, clinical decision-making, evidence-based management skills, and generally enhance your ability to contribute to the quality use of medicine.

This course has allowed me to build on my knowledge and understanding of clinical pharmacy and different disease states, and will open up opportunities for me to work in a variety of clinical settings.
This course will equip you with the fundamental skills you need to enhance your career opportunities as a clinical or consultant pharmacist. In particular, you'll improve your knowledge of the quality use of medicines and therapeutic management.
By developing your communication skills, you'll also be able to build stronger relationships with patients and other health professionals.

Graduate early with the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy
You can choose to finish your degree after completing the six advanced pharmacotherapeutic units, graduating with a Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy.
Pathway to Master of Clinical Pharmacy
Successful completion of your Professional Honours in Clinical Pharmacy will provide you with entry into the Master of Clinical Pharmacy, and the ProfHons post-nominal.
If you choose to study the Masters of Clinical Pharmacy, you will have already completed all coursework units within the Masters. Furthermore, having completed research methodology units you will be adequately prepared for undertaking a practice-based research project providing you with the opportunity to conduct truly transformative research under the guidance of staff from UMORE.
Professional Recognition
The School will notify the relevant professional colleges, organisations and bodies and request that ProfHonsClinPharm receive the same professional recognition that the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy currently receives. It will be requested that graduates from the ProfHonsClinPharm course should receive the same financial qualification allowance as graduates from the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy.
Course structure
The course adopts a structured approach based on Evidence Based Medicine principles, and requires students to complete eight units of study.
You will study six advanced pharmacotherapeutic coursework units, covering cardiology, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, palliative care, geriatric medicine, endocrinology, neurology, psychiatric disorders, and gastroenterology.
You will then study two dedicated coursework units on research methodology. This will provide you with a sound understanding of practice-based research to enable students to design effective research projects and quality improvement initiatives in their own workplaces.

Entry requirements
Eligibility
Students will have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Tasmania or another university or tertiary institution which is deemed equivalent, and will be registered pharmacists. Appropriate post-registration work experience of at least 1 year will also be normally considered as a requirement for acceptance into this program.
Entry Requirements
At a minimum, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, either from the University of Tasmania, or from another equivalent tertiary institution, and be a registered pharmacist.
If you've completed your undergraduate degree within the last 12 months, you'll need to have obtained an average grade of 60% in your final year post registration.
In general, we also require you to have worked in the industry for a minimum of one year.
Admission requirements are:
i. Registration to Practice as a Pharmacist
ii. No restriction on practicing/ registration certificate
iii. At least one year FTE practice as a registered Pharmacist
iv. Completion of a Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent.

Credit transfer
Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.
Articulation to
This course will allow articulation into the Masters of Clinical Pharmacy. The course is not designed to articulate directly with research higher degrees.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students

Scholarships
Each year the University of Tasmania administers an estimated $7 million in scholarships to students from all walks of life, including those who have achieved high academic results; those from low socio-economic backgrounds; students with sporting ability; students undertaking overseas study; and students with a disability.
Applications for most awards commencing in Semester 1 open at the beginning of August and close strictly on 31 October of the year prior.
