Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) refers to a broad domain of healing resources that encompasses all health systems, modalities, and practices and their accompanying theories and beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society of culture in a given historical period. This course has been developed to assist health professionals in developing the evidence-based knowledge and skills required to meet the consumer demand for CAM products as well as satisfying their professional and ethical responsibilities. It is a fully online course, designed to be completed on a part-time basis. It consists of eight core subjects taught by the Division of Pharmacy, School of Medicine. Candidates may complete the requirements of the course in a minimum of four semesters (two years) and a maximum of five years, from the time of first enrolment.

  • 3 Demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of research to evidence based practice including the ability to adapt knowledge and skills to diverse contexts and to exercise critical thinking and judgement in developing new understandings;
  • 4 Demonstrate an ability to implement research findings with some degree of independence, including the retrieval, interpretation and application of published literature relating to clinical practice;
  • 5 Demonstrate advanced verbal and written communication skills, to effectively communicate with a broad range of health professionals and patients.
