This unit builds on content learnt in CAA100 Foundations of Paramedicine, with a focus on mental health care in paramedicine, enabling the student to identify, assess and manage individuals with mental illness. The importance of, and barriers to, clear and effective communication with patients and stakeholders will be explored. In this unit the student will investigate the professional, ethical, legal and socio-cultural factors associated with the delivery of patient-centred, evidence-based mental health care in paramedicine.

- Describe and apply knowledge and understanding of a range of contemporary mental health influences and disease processes considering appropriate and safe interventions, therapeutic approaches and referral pathways.
