Introduction
This unit will reaffirm the importance of employing a systematic approach to patient care, in particular relating to unique environmental emergencies and will prepare you for practice as a beginning paramedic practitioner. You will further develop clinical reasoning skills, patient communication skills, clinical judgement and critical thinking in the context of patients suffering from injuries or illnesses in unique environmental settings.

- Explain the pathophysiology of specific environmental emergencies relevant to paramedic practice.
- Explain the management of specific environmental emergencies based on the pathophysiology and principles of paramedic practice.
- Perform paramedic level clinical assessment and management in simulated clinical scenarios of specific environmental emergencies.
- Evaluate current Australian paramedic practice guidelines against relevant literature on the management of environmental emergencies.
