Advanced Cardiology in Paramedicine CAA322

Introduction

This unit builds on paramedic clinical practice to develop students’ knowledge in the areas of electrocardiology, pharmacology, and the management of a range of acute and chronic conditions; for both adult and paediatric patients. Scope of paramedic practice and clinical currency themes will also be explored and integrated throughout the unit.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse 12 & 15-Lead ECG tracings to contribute to provisional diagnoses, relating the findings to both clinical presentation and underlying pathology.
  • Formulate and apply effective and holistic management plans for both adult and paediatric patients experiencing a range of cardiac conditions.
  • Critically appraise contemporary prehospital treatment regimens for a range of cardiac conditions; including acute coronary syndromes, cardiac failure and cardiac arrest
  • Apply structured cardiac assessment methodology to guide patient care and treatment.
