Inter-professional Education and Practice in Dementia Care CAD113

Introduction

This unit introduces students to the concepts of inter-professional education, learning and practice to facilitate optimum care for persons with dementia and their families. The theoretical and practical importance of interprofessional practice will be explored, in part through a consideration of the principles of interprofessional education. Theoretical knowledge and practical skills in collaborative teamwork, leadership, interprofessional collaboration, communication and conflict management will be developed and supported by team and groupwork activities. Group work activities will provide students with an opportunity to reflect upon their own strengths as team members and to identify areas where improvement is required in their involvement in interprofessional and collaborative practice.
