Introduction
The aims of this unit are: to introduce fundamental concepts of biostatistics and provide a background in descriptive and analytical methods that are used to estimate association between variables. This unit covers statistical theory, data entry and manipulation methods, data summarising, basic methods of association and linear and logistic regression. With the basic tools found within this unit students will be able to enter, manipulate and check the validity of data and use statistical software to analyse and interpret results. Students will be required to use Microsoft Excel, Word and statistical software R (RStudio). The analytical methods used here form the foundation of research methods in epidemiology and health services research.
