Public Health Intervention Practice CAM633

Introduction

This unit provides students with the conceptual, analytical and strategy planning basis for effective public health intervention management and capacity building practice. Intervention management (assessing, building capacity, planning, implementing and evaluating public health interventions) is a core function of public health practice and is an important competency requirement for effective public health practitioners. Intervention management focuses on the theory and practice of capacity building and developing, implementing and evaluating a strategy portfolio based on analysis of available public health intelligence, including analysis of determinants, stakeholders, community capacity and intervention research.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of the principles, concepts, philosophy and purpose of public health intervention management and capacity building as strategic processes in public health practice
  • Apply various methods and frameworks applicable to the assessment of, development of, and evaluation of capacity for public health action.
  • Analyse public health problems and identify problem determinants.
  • Design multi-strategy interventions using logic modelling, knowledge of intervention options and evidence of strategy effectiveness.
  • Develop plans for intervention implementation, including budgets, human and enabling resources for public health action.
  • Develop evaluation plans that provide evidence of intervention process, impact, outcome and economic evaluation.
