This Unit explores the nature of change within the broader environmental and organisational context. It will include exploration of current theories and research around issues relating to leading and managing as well as diffusion of innovation.
Strategies for successful implementation of change, including the identification of barriers to implementation are developed, particularly as they apply to health and human service settings.
Participants are encouraged to examine the role of leadership in change management as well as exploring and analysing the intersection between the drivers of change, change readiness and service innovation diffusion.

- Analyse the broader societal factors impacting on change within health and human service settings including culture, community attitudes, evidence-based practice, quality and safety systems and governance.
- Critically examine change management theories and models and how they impact on system change and uptake of evidence-based practice and service innovation in health and human services.
- Analyse the intersection between the drivers of change and change readiness at an individual, organisational and system level.
- Critically examine the role of leadership in managing change and successful diffusion of innovation in health and human service settings.
- Develop strategies for applying successful change management and service innovation diffusion in health and human services including critical self-reflection on the implications for professional practice.
