Introduction
This unit is designed to cover more advanced concepts of immunology. At the completion of the unit, you should have an understanding of the components of the immune system and their interactions as well as the major defence mechanisms of the body against different types of infection. Other specialised areas of immunology, including inappropriate and allergic responses, anti-tumour responses and transplantation immunology will be considered. Hands on practical classes will reinforce the lecture coverage and provide an introduction to techniques used in the laboratory and for characterising the immune system.
