Hobart, Launceston, Rozelle - Sydney

This unit is being phased out, no new enrolments are being taken.

Introduction

Health service providers in Australia need to respond effectively to diverse populations. This unit will introduce to you the diversity of races, ethnicities, religions, sexualities, genders and abilities in Australia. You will examine how belonging to a diverse group can impact how people understand their health, and access health care services. A focus of the unit is developing your ability to reflect about your own identity, and how your values, beliefs and attitudes about diversity may affect your response to diverse populations. The unit also emphasises developing understandings about culturally safe health care practice, and acquiring skills in responding sensitively to diverse populations. You will explore the advocacy health service providers can undertake to improve the health outcomes for diverse populations.
