Strengths Based Nursing & Healthcare CNA343

Hobart, Launceston, Rozelle - Sydney, Darlinghurst - Sydney

Strengths-based nursing and health care is an approach that guides health delivery for persons and families and is at the forefront of international health care reforms and nursing developments. This approach aims to optimise functioning and wellbeing, promote health and create conditions for healing across the life span. This approach works with the person and the family's strengths and resources in collaboration with the individual, the family and the health care team. This unit will explore four major principles of strengths-based nursing and health care:

1.         Person/family centred care;
2.         Empowerment;
3.         Health promotion and healing; and,
4.         Collaborative partnership.

In this unit a case study approach is used to support the development and application of strengths based nursing knowledge and skills in various contexts of nursing and health care. Students will have the opportunity to develop further their Professional Portfolio in this unit.
