Policy and Leadership in Older Person Care CNA426
Introduction
Taking a leadership perspective, this unit explores the integration of professional, gerontological-practice models of care for older people as they transition through acute, sub-acute, community and residential care in the context of complex regulatory, policy and political frameworks. You will examine a number of professional gerontological practice models from the perspective of the older client and the health professional through the changing approaches to service design and evidence based practice.

Learning Outcomes
- Critically analyse regulatory and political factors that affect older people’s participation and success as partners in care and why care and services for older people presents as a major policy issue in Australia
- Evaluate and determine how current professional gerontological practice models either support or challenge existing service design that enables decision making for older people, from your perspective as a potential leader in the field
- Create a plan for implementing a professional gerontological practice model in your workplace with the aim to build staff knowledge and capability and integrate regulatory and policy factors with service design and evidence based practice
- Demonstrate the ability to transmit your knowledge and ideas to others using professional language
