This unit is only available to registered nurses.
Introduction
This unit is designed to assist registered nurses and midwives to extend their knowledge and skills in the area of skin and wound management. The unit will provide students with the theoretical foundation to enable them to apply an evidence-based framework to the assessment and management of a diverse range of acute and chronic wounds within a variety of health care settings.

Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the anatomy and physiology of the skin and wound healing, in particular as applied to ongoing assessment and nursing management of a patient with a wound
- Apply analytical skills to the data gained from nursing assessment, monitoring and laboratory findings to evaluate both therapeutic and wound dressing materials
- Explain issues related to wound bed preparation, dressing material selection and factors that affect wound healing.
