Students cannot enrol in this unit if they have already completed the unit CNA787. This unit is only available to registered nurses. Students undertaking this unit should be employed in areas where they can gain exposure to trauma care.
Students undertaking the Emergency Nursing stream are not permitted to enrol in this unit.
Introduction
This unit is underpinned by the theories and the practice of trauma nursing. The kinematics of trauma, patterns and mechanisms of injury, common trauma presentations and physiological response to trauma across the age spectrum will be examined. Students will extend their knowledge and skills in clinical assessment, problem solving and communication, through a theoretical exploration of the trauma literature and clinical practice.
