Contemporary Critical Care Nursing Science CNA773

Introduction

This unit builds upon the knowledge, understanding and skills developed in CNA772. The content of this unit focuses on the scientific theories related to nursing the critically ill patient with single and multi-organ systems failure. Specialised cardiothoracic and neuromedical pathology will be explored as will principles of nursing the critically ill child and obstetric patient.

  • Understand and describe the applied pathophysiological nature of complex conditions including diagnosis, pharmacological and therapeutic management across the age spectrums; Apply knowledge to complex clinical cases in the setting of critical care; Demonstrate problem solving capabilities as linked to knowledge of pathophysiology; Identify therapeutic management as justified against evidence based literature.
  • Discuss, analyse and apply data gained from assessment, monitoring and laboratory findings against evidence based literature; Utilise problem solving skills that incorporates data gained from integrated assessment and monitoring practices; Recommends alternative options based upon assessment findings.
