This unit is underpinned by the theories and the practice of trauma nursing. The kinematics of trauma, patterns and mechanisms of injury, common trauma presentations and physiological response to trauma across the age spectrum will be examined. Students will extend their knowledge and skills in clinical assessment, problem solving and communication, through a theoretical exploration of the trauma literature and clinical practice.

- Understand and describe the applied pathophysiological nature of rapidly changing patient conditions including diagnosis, pharmacological and psychosocial dimensions across the age spectrums. a. Apply contextual knowledge of trauma nursing to patients using understanding of the physiology b. Apply problem solving capabilities to address common emergency presentations c. Justify prescribed therapeutic interventions against evidence-based literature
- Discuss and analyse data gained from assessment, monitoring and laboratory findings against evidence based literature. a. Utilise problem solving skills that incorporates data gained from integrated assessment and monitoring practices b. Recommends alternative options based upon assessment findings
