Pharmaceutical Science involves the study of physical and chemical principles which are important in the design of dosage forms and other pharmaceutical systems and the application of these principles to practice, particularly in the development of an understanding of the relationship between pharmaceutical formulation and therapeutic activity. This background physicochemical knowledge is the fundamental basis of how drugs are effectively delivered to the body to exert an effect This pharmaceutical science unit has a strong emphasis on the application of basic chemical principles including solubility, ionisation, surface phenomena, as well as analytical chemistry and drug decomposition.

Physicochemical principles - 5 blocks of 4x 1-hr lectures (online) and 13 x 2-hr workshops; 3 x 3-hr physical pharmacy practicals.
1 x 2-hr exam (80%), online quiz Module assessments (MCQ) (20%), and physical pharmacy practicals (pass/fail).
