Food and Drugs to Market CSA310

Introduction

Marketing of functional foods, supplements and natural products is a highly regulated area, and the pathway to market can vary considerably with regard to whether a product is considered a food or medicine (which includes nutritional supplements and natural products). This unit will explore the regulatory pathways available for functional foods in Australia, and compare these to other international markets, exploring aspects such as quality assurance, quality control, marketing claims, and sources of raw compounds (natural, semi synthetic, extraction processes). Related aspects will also be covered including supplement formulation development.
