Introduction

CSA322 Therapeutics in Practice 3A builds upon your existing knowledge of physiology and pharmacology, microbiology and evidence-based health to develop the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to deliver pharmaceutical care. Topics include the pathophysiology and therapeutics principles used in the management of common diseases. These include cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and endocrine conditions. An emphasis is placed on the application of knowledge to evaluate and advise upon pharmacotherapy in clinical situations. Skills will be developed for application in the practice setting, including clinical pharmacy skills, pharmaceutical care, patient monitoring (including review of laboratory data) and identification and resolution of drug related problems. Teaching activities will include lectures and tutorials with case studies.

4 x 1-hour lectures weekly.

Assessment

Online quiz (5%), mid-semester written test (20%), end of semester oral exam (15%) and 1 x 2-hr written exam (60%).


On successful completion of all CSA322 assessments, CSA322 students receive an IC (Interim Completion) result. The final result for this unit is granted on completion of CSA306 (Therapeutics in Practice 3B), based on an weighting of the marks from the two units CSA322 (2/3) and CSA306(1/2).


The final result for this unit is granted on completion of any outstanding CSA322 assessments and all assessments in CSA306 (Therapeutics in Practice 3B), based on a weighting of the marks from the two units CSA322 (2/3) and CSA306 (1/3).


A student must achieve ≥50% in the end of year (CSA306) written exam plus an overall aggregate mark of ≥50% to pass CSA322 & CSA306
