Pharmacy Skills in Practice 3A focuses on the issues and concepts associated with professional pharmacy activities and clinical pharmacy practice. You will be introduced to a range of topics, including quality use of medicines, pharmaceutical care, patient counselling and communication skills, dispensing skills, medication adherence, prescription and non-prescription medication provision, legal aspects of pharmacy practice and other professional issues. The practical component covers prescription dispensing, identification and resolution of drug-related problems, and patient counselling.

The overall objective of the unit is for you to develop a good practical knowledge and understanding of pharmacy practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of knowledge gained from all units within the pharmacy course and application of that knowledge to solve practice-related problems.

Teaching Pattern

1 x 1 hour online module weekly, 1 x 3 hour workshop weekly.


On successful completion of all components of CSA355 students receive an IC (Interim Completion) result. The final mark for CSA355 is a composite of the marks for CSA355 and CSA357, based on a 1/3 weighting of CSA355 and 2/3 weighting of CSA357.  Assessment in CSA355 includes: workshop assessment (20%), a 3-hour Practical exam (50%) and an oral exam (30%, 15 minutes).
