Compliance
In order to commence workplace learning outside of the University of Tasmania (including clinical placements and visits) students are required to demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and the School of Medicine's policies relevant to workplace based learning. These include the Police Check Policy and Procedures, Infectious Disease Policy, Code of Conduct and Student Placement Agreement. Students who do not comply with these policies will not be placed or will be removed from placements and therefore will not be able to complete this unit. Students who have not complied or are unsure of the policies should seek guidance from the School.
Professional Experience Placement (PEP)
To be eligible to undertake PEP, all students must be “Verified” as meeting College of Health and Medicine PEP Safety in Practice Compliance as per the Course Entry Requirements. Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.
Introduction
CSA430 Pharmacy Practice offers an advanced pharmacy practice teaching program incorporating placements in teaching sites throughout Tasmania, mainland Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. Placement blocks will provide students with the opportunity to experience pharmacy practice in a variety of settings.
All students will undertake hospital and community pharmacy placements, and can design their own elective placement. Elective options include research, extended community practice, aged care, general practice and a range of other health or industry-related placements.
University teaching blocks will focus on the development of knowledge and skills in medication management, vaccination, research and extending knowledge in developing areas of pharmacy practice.
Building on the research stream embedded within the course, all students will participate in a group-based research project. Research projects will be designed by university staff in collaboration with placement providers to facilitate investigation of a potential medication safety issue or identified gap in practice during the placement program.
