Introduction
This unit is designed to allow the students to develop the additional knowledge necessary to function safely and effectively as an advanced paramedic practitioner. The course will provide students advanced knowledge in the areas of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as it applies to the pharmacological management of diseases/illness within the context of advanced paramedic practice. Students will develop a sound understanding of the of quality use of medicines, the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act and Regulations, Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and medication management for advanced paramedic practitioners.

Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics in order to describe both the therapeutic and adverse effects of commonly used drugs.
- demonstrate an understanding of the rationale behind the use of commonly used drugs in commonly occurring disease states and/or accident scenarios.
- demonstrate a broadened understanding of clinical pharmacology, therapeutics and medications management.
- apply the principles of clinical pharmacology, therapeutics and medications management to interpret patient cases and evaluate: the therapeutic decision making process; actual and/or potential drug-related problems; the actual and/or potential impact on patient care.
