Introduction

An introductory physics course for health science professionals.  This subject provides an introduction to the topics of mechanics, waves, fluids and thermodynamics, sound, optics, atomic and nuclear physics.  CXA115 aims to provide a basic understanding of physical processes and physical problem solving techniques in order to form a basis for future studies in health sciences.

  • either TCE Physics (*PH866) or Physical Sciences (*SC786) or equiv plus some background in maths.

One 2 hour Lecture per week for 13 weeks
1 x 1 hour Tutorial per week in some weeks
Practical/laboratory sessions 5 x 2 hour Laboratory sessions

continuous assessment (assignments + lab + mid-sem test) (50%), end-of-sem 3 hr exam (50%)
