CXA385 Nutrition and Disease is designed to provide you with an increased understanding of metabolism in the human body and the role of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals in both health and under physiological stress of disease. The unit will cover a range of nutritional problems in the population, including changing nutritional requirements over the lifespan, and the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of many common chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancers and dementia.

Teaching Pattern

Face-to-face 2 hour lecture weekly (13 weeks), 4 x 2-3 hour practical sessions


1000 word critical review assignment (15%), mid semester test (10%), 1500 word dietary analysis assignment (20%), on-line quiz (5%), 2 hour final examination (50%).
