Therapy Across the Lifespan CXA710
Introduction
This unit uses the lifespan continuum to equip students with an understanding of the core knowledge and skills related to conditions associated with motor delay or coordination difficulties; neurological impairment; sensory impairment; attention and behaviour; genetic, intellectual and/or multiple impairments; and neuromuscular conditions. It will also provide students with knowledge and skills related to common conditions associated with the lower limb; spine; head, neck & upper limb; acute and chronic pain; connective tissue disorders; and obesity and physical activity. The unit includes three modules: Paediatric Development, Assessment and Therapy; Youth and Adult Assessment and Therapy; and Older Adult Assessment and Therapy.

Learning Outcomes
- Explain growth and developmental changes across the lifespan and their clinical significance in musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and neurological function and dysfunction.
- Synthesise a range of contemporary theories, clinical approaches and evidence in the application of clinical reasoning to assess children, adults and older adults with dysfunction of neurological, musculoskeletal and cardiopulmonary systems.
- Demonstrate an ability to use age- and gender appropriate physiotherapy interventions specific to an individual's needs using appropriate outcome measures.
- Describe disability and dementia and explain the complexities associated responding to people living with disabling conditions.
- Demonstrate the principles of physiotherapy leadership in the education of others within health care settings.
