Occupational Therapy Practice 2 CXA718

Introduction

This professional experience placement unit further explores concepts associated with occupation and extends student's ability to determine an occupational evaluation and intervention plan to facilitate occupation using the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key theoretical approaches to practice. Relevant frameworks, including the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) are examined and evaluated. Students draw on the concepts and principles of occupational science and apply an evidence-based approach to client centred assessment including therapeutic interviewing, client counselling, occupational performance analysis, and advanced motor skill assessment and intervention (including the utilisation of assistive technology) to assist people to meaningfully participate in life.

Learning Outcomes

  • Critically analyse the theoretical and practical concepts of Assistive Technology and explain their use in client support to facilitate occupation.
  • Conduct and analyse an activity analysis and identify the relationship to occupational performance, using the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and an appropriate occupational model.
  • Document an evidenced based plan outlining activity best suited for an individual that therapeutically addresses occupational based performance, using clinical reasoning and person centredness.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, significant others and referrers to meet desired health, wellbeing and occupation needs in a culturally sensitive and collaborative manner.
  • Use techniques of instruction to educate the client, caregiver, family and significant others, to facilitate activities in areas of occupation, health and wellbeing using therapeutic use of self.
