Now, more than ever, everyone needs the skills to communicate and work effectively across different cultural systems, values, perspectives and behaviours—whether these differences arise from national, Indigenous, religious, ethnic, workplace or other cultural contexts. This includes developing the capacity to recognise the social fault lines that produce systemic inequities for minority cultural groups within Australian society.

Cultural intelligence is not something that is fixed, nor is it a finite destination of knowledge, but a set of skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will continue to develop to reflect new understandings and experiences of working effectively in a diverse world. Whatever your starting point, this unit will help guide you in your lifelong learning towards cultural intelligence. Understanding your own worldview and how it impacts your attitudes, behaviour and communication is a key part of the unit. You will engage in ongoing reflection to explore how your culture and upbringing conditions your responses to cross-cultural situations. You will investigate strategies and apply unit concepts to a variety of real-world situations. This is a fully online unit which encourages and rewards regular participation in interactive discussion activities. The assessment tasks allow you to apply the concepts and skills to your particular interests and a range of professional contexts.
