This unit has been discontinued.
This unit must be taken in the first year of enrolment in the Master of Psychology (Clinical) or Master of Professional Psychology programs.
Introduction
This unit aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills to conduct a competent psychological assessment. Relevant clinical and theoretical literature will be reviewed, with an emphasis given to the practical skills needed to evaluate, administer, score and interpret commonly used clinical instruments. Issues of clinical judgement and decision-making/clinical inference will also be considered.
In this unit you will learn skills needed to conduct an initial interview assessment, cognitive assessment and assessment of mood in a competent and ethical manner. Practice and ethical issues around confidentiality and limits to it will be discussed. How to conduct a competent and ethical risk assessment and your response to such an assessment will also be covered. In each seminar you will be required to engage in and complete activities involving practice and ethical issues as they relate to assessment.
