Concepts of Nursing 2: Research and Professional Responsibilities NUR244

Introduction

The concepts of ethics and research underpin our professional frameworks and have established nursing as one of the most trusted professions in Australia. In this unit you will extend your understanding of core legal and ethical concepts, relevant to practice to further enhance your understanding of professional frameworks and responsibilities. You will explore your own values and your role as a moral change agent in the health care setting. The important field of research ethics will be critically examined as the bridge that spans legal and ethical principles into the closely inter-related domains of research process, evidence-based practice and knowledge translation. You will explore the research paradigms, methodologies and methods that nurses use to build disciplinary knowledge, with a strong emphasis on the interpretation of research data and research findings, leading to the provision of evidence-informed and person-centred care.

Teaching

Teaching Pattern

The unit is fully online and provides you with opportunities for synchronous and asynchronous interactions – peer to peer, student to teacher and teacher to student. You are expected to devote around 10 hours per week to the study materials, assessment tasks and self-directed learning.
You can interact with the online content at any time, which will be in a modularised format. Online tutorials/webinars will provide further opportunity to engage with instructors and peers and consolidate your knowledge of the online presentations and readings. The format and content of these sessions will be advertised through MyLO announcements.

Whilst the unit calendar provides a weekly guide, it is expected that you set your own goals to meet the unit learning outcomes. You are however, expected to have engaged with the relevant online learning activities before you attend the Intensives. In addition to MyLO, you will be required to use an electronic platform to support your learning journey, through developing your professional portfolio to display your work.

On graduation, you will continue to have access to your professional portfolio.
