Entry

1.        Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering, Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering (Specialisation), Graduate Diploma in Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) or Master of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation)

a.        Achieved a pass or higher level in a Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent

b.        Other qualifications and/or industrial experience (Recognition of Prior Learning) deemed by the Course Coordinator to be the equivalent of the above.

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Maritime Engineering (specialisation):

a.        the Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering or equivalent.

b.        Other qualifications and/or industrial experience (Recognition of Prior Learning) deemed by the Course Coordinator to be the equivalent of the above.

Candidates for the Master of Maritime Engineering (specialisation):

a.        the Graduate Diploma in Maritime Studies (specialisation) or equivalent.

b.        Other qualifications and/or industrial experience (Recognition of Prior Learning) deemed by the Course Coordinator to be the equivalent of the above.

2.        Candidates for the award of Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering (with or without specialisation) shall complete the award requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than 0.5 years of full‐time study (or its equivalent)] and not more than 2 years from the time of first enrolment in the Graduate Certificate.

Candidates for the award of Graduate Diploma in Maritime Engineering (specialisation) shall complete the award requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than 1.0 years of full‐time study (or its equivalent)] and not more than 4 years from the time of first enrolment in the Graduate Diploma.

Candidates for the award of Master of Maritime Engineering (specialisation) shall complete the award requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than 1.5 years of full‐time study (or its equivalent)] and not more than 6 years from the time of first enrolment in the Masters degree.

Course Structure

3 i.      To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering (specialisation), the candidate shall pass 4 units comprising:

(a) Three compulsory units as outlined in Schedule A or B.

(b) One elective specialist unit as outlined in Schedule A or B.

3 ii.     To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma in Maritime Engineering (specialisation), the candidate shall pass the units specified in 3(i) and an additional 4 units comprising: (a) Three compulsory units as outlined in Schedule A or B. (b) One elective specialist units as outlined in Schedule A or B.

3 iii.    To qualify for the award of Master of Maritime Engineering (specialisation), the candidate shall pass all eight units prescribed in 3(i) and 3 (ii) and an additional 2 units comprising: (a) Two compulsory core units as outlined in Schedule A or B.

4.        The units which may be included in a course for the award shall, unless otherwise approved by the Director (NCMEH) or delegate, be in accordance with Schedule A or B accompanying these specifications.

5.        Units may be counted towards the award only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by AMC and as summarised in Schedule A or B.

6.        A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting (4 units per semester), or if the candidate is in full‐time employment during any given semester, more than 50% (2 units) weighting.

7.        Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.

8.        In every case the candidateʹs choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to the requirements of paragraph 3.

Credit for Previous Studies

9.        Successful completion of units in other courses in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the award.  The Australian Maritime College may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the award.

Miscellaneous

10.      The Australian Maritime College may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.

11.      These specifications shall take effect on 1 July 2010 and shall apply to all candidates for the award, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

12.      The approved abbreviation for the awards of Graduate Certificate in Maritime Engineering (specialisation) shall be: GradCert Mar Eng (XXXX) as follows:

· GradCert Mar Eng (Tech Manag)

· GradCert Mar Eng (Nav Eng)

The approved abbreviation for the awards of Graduate Diploma in Maritime Engineering (specialisation) shall be: GradDip Mar Eng (XXXX) as follows:

· GradDip Mar Eng (Tech Manag)

· GradDip Mar Eng (Nav Eng)

The approved abbreviation for the awards of Master of Maritime Engineering (specialisation) shall be: M.Mar Eng (XXXX) as follows:

· M.Mar Eng (Tech Manag)

· M.Mar Eng (Nav Eng)
