This course provides a platform for students who wish to combine the knowledge and skills delivered through the Maritime and Logistics Management MBA program with marine technology and management specific units such as Principles of Naval Architecture, Design of Marine Machinery Systems, and management of Engineering Projects. It includes a major that has a minimum of four distinct units focusing on this specialisation and six maritime and logistics management units. The remaining two units can be chosen from the range of degree electives available. In this way you can customise your course to suit your career plans and personal interests.

This course is designed to provide both existing and potential middle and senior managers with management knowledge and expertise, including its application to maritime operations. With the focus on an applied approach to this critical industry, centred on strategic and analytical thinking, a unique educational experience is provided.

    The organisations connected with the maritime and logistics industries are very diverse, including for instance large private companies, entrepreneurial start-ups and government entities. The diversity creates many opportunities for your career progression, both globally and domestically. For example, the maritime industry includes ports, shipping companies, stevedores and tourism and the logistics industry encompasses warehousing, road freight, air freight, freight forwarding and distribution. Additionally, many organisations may have a primary focus on manufacturing or international business, which will necessitate that they have internal departments involved in logistics, supply chain management and international trade, creating more opportunities. With logistics the fastest growing industry globally, there are many possibilities for you to choose.

    Entry
    1. The College of Sciences and Engineering may accept as a candidate for the Master of Business Administration (Maritime Technology and Management) a person who has completed an undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution.
    2. Candidates for the award shall complete the award requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than three semesters of full-time study [or its equivalent] and not more than four calendar years, from the time of first enrolment.


    Course Structure
    3. To qualify for the award, the candidate shall pass units totalling 150 credit points.
    4. Candidates have the choice of completing twelve units of coursework or a dissertation option, subject to project and supervisor availability.
    a. The coursework option comprises 62.5 credit points of core units and 87.5% credit points of degree electives.
    b. The dissertation option comprises 62.5 credit points of core units; 37.5% credit points of degree electives and 50 credit points of dissertation units inclusive of JNB508 Research Methods.
    5. The units which may be included in a course for the award shall, unless otherwise approved by the Executive Dean, be in accordance with the Schedule of units for the Master of Business Administration (Maritime Technology and Management) accompanying these specifications.
    6. A candidate normally may not enrol in any semester in units totalling more than 50 credit points. This applies to all candidates including those in full-time employment during any given year.
    7. Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the award.
    8. In every case the candidate’s choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Executive Dean, in accordance with the requirements of paragraphs 4 and 5.


    Credit for Previous Studies
    9. Passes in subjects or units in other postgraduate courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credit towards the Masters, provided that the College may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the Masters.


    Miscellaneous
    10. The College from may time to time make amendments to the Schedule to the specifications.
    11. The specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2020 and shall apply to all candidates for the Masters, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.
    12. The approved abbreviation for Master of Business Administration (Maritime Technology and Management) shall be MBA(MarTechMgt)

    Domestic students

    Options for this course

    This is a full-fee course, which means you’ll need to pay the entire amount for your studies. Commonwealth supported places are not available in this postgraduate course. However, there are still support options available for eligible students to help you manage the cost of studying this course.

    You may be able to fund all or part of your tuition fees by accessing a FEE-HELP loan from the Australian Government. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists domestic full-fee students to pay for University, which is repaid through the Australian Tax System once you earn above a repayment threshold. This means you’ll only have to start repaying the loan once you start earning above a specific amount.

    An important note on Youth Allowance and Austudy

    The Department of Social Services has approved some accredited and professionally oriented Masters courses for student payments through Youth Allowance or Austudy. This means if you enrol in one of these courses, you may be eligible for student payments. However, please be aware that this is not the case for all Master courses.
