Course objectives
BICT(Hons) graduates should be ICT professionals with the additional attitudes, abilities and skills to:
- select, adapt and effectively apply research processes, methodologies, tools, and techniques to plan, conduct and manage and independent ICT-related research project;
- critically analyse research literature to conduct a literature review;
- be aware of the social consequences of ICT-related research and respond appropriately to ethical considerations and act in accordance with best practice and industry standards;
- analyse, synthesise and evaluate factors to answer a research question, and to defend a research approach;
- document and communicate effectively the research techniques used and the results of the research both orally and in a written thesis;
- evaluate and communicate the likely utility of emerging or advanced ICT to an individual or organization;
- apply abstraction and computational, creative and critical thinking to a problem, identify and define the ICT requirements, apply knowledge of advanced ICT principles and technical skills to develop and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of potential solutions; and
- continue lifelong learning.
Career outcomes
The honours degree opens a range of career opportunities. Students with honours are particularly sought after by leading employers, and can choose from more interesting research and development positions because of their extra skills and proven abilities. Honours is an ideal pathway for high-achieving graduates to enter a doctoral program (PhD), which provides a wider range of career opportunities, including research, analytic or academic positions.
Course structure
In the BICT(Hons) candidates will do the equivalent of eight 12.5% units. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two coursework 12.5% units. Candidates must also satisfactorily complete ICT Research Methods (25%) (KIT401), and a research disseration over two 25% units (KIT402, KIT403).

Entry requirements
Admission Prerequisites
The Faculty may accept as a candidate for the BICT(Hons) a person who has qualified for a bachelor degree (3 or 4 year degree) from an accredited tertiary institution and who has a DN average over four advanced level units from their ICT related major (or equivalent).
Articulation from
Students can articulate into the BICT(Hons) from the BComp, BIS or BICT offered at UTAS.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students
2020 Total Course Fee (international students): $32,950 AUD*.
Course cost based on a rate of $32,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students
International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
